There is some gas station drama that’s heating up. Buc-ee’s is known for suing other businesses for copyright infringement. It will come at you for having logos that it thinks are too similar to its beaver. Now it’s targeting a chain for having a Moose mascot for that exact reason.

Buc-ee’s sues gas station over similar moose logo

I can’t speak for everyone, but I’ve never looked at a moose and thought it looked similar to a beaver. However, Buc-ee’s is suing Mickey Mart for having a mascot that closely resembles its iconic red hat-wearing beaver.

The gas station with 42 locations in Ohio has signs featuring a moose. It’s smiling inside a red hexagon. Buc-ee’s argues it’s too close to its cartoon beaver that’s inside a yellow circle. But come on, the animals are in different shapes and different colors.

Plus, the moose isn’t wearing a hat, and the beaver doesn’t have antlers. Still, Buc-ee’s wants the moose to go away as it takes Mickey Mart to court for trademark infringement and unfair competition. It’s also trying to cancel the company’s trademark registrations.

According to USA Today, the court documents claim that Mickey Mart is transitioning its branding to ‘Mickey’s’ and the new signage closely resembles the Buc-ee’s trademark.

This unauthorized use of the Buc-ee’s logo could cause confusion among consumers. That makes it feel like drivers can’t tell the difference between different names.

The country documents share, “Consumers are likely to perceive a connection or association as to the source, sponsorship or affiliation of the parties’ products and services, when in fact, none exists, given the similarity of the parties’ logos, trade channels, and consumer bases.
