Man Backs His Porsche 911 Through Parking Garage Wall, Gets Lodged in Air Shaft
A Porsche 911 is a lot of car for anyone to drive. It was apparently too much car for one 90-year-old man in Ludwigsburg, Germany, who ended up in a parking garage air shaft.
The man ended up in the shaft when he reportedly confused the accelerator and brake pedals on his white Porsche 911 Carrera GTS Cabriolet. That mistake led him to crash through a concrete wall in the underground parking garage at the city’s town hall.
Unfortunately for him, behind that concrete wall was a large ventilation shaft. He and his Porsche ended up awkwardly suspended in the shaft.
According to local media outlet Stuttgarter Zeitung, the driver was uninjured after being rescued by first responders. Police claim that the man’s age was not a cause of the accident.
Getting the Porsche out of the air shaft was a complex challenge
Once the man was removed from the Porsche, the fire department was then tasked with removing the car from the ventilation shaft. Rather than pull it forward out of the hole, they chose to lower it down to the next level below. They did this to avoid any further damage to the vehicle.
After leaving the car overnight, they tried to fire it up, and voila, it actually started. Despite being somewhat drivable, they still towed it away.
Damage to the property was estimated to be around $110,000, according to police. As for the car, the son of the driver told Stuttgarter Zeitung that he hoped his dad would finally give up driving. His dad was reportedly having none of that.
