Chicago police officers fire shots at an SUV that hit an officer

The Chicago Police Department has been investigating burglaries at a rail yard. A few officers happened to be there when a group of thieves arrived on Wednesday morning.

They could be seen removing items from rail cars and placing them in an SUV. As officers approached the scene, one suspect got in the SUV and purposely struck an officer.

According to NBC Chicago, multiple officers fired their guns at the vehicle as it continued to target other officers. But then the driver made the mistake of hitting a marked Chicago police car.

The vehicle got stuck, allowing officers to take the suspect into custody as they found guns. Meanwhile, a van was spotted fleeing the scene. Officers radioed information about it to other members of the force.

It was found in the 7100 block of South Yale. Officers attempted to perform a traffic stop, but the man rammed into two squad cars in an attempt to escape. One man tried to get into the van but was hit by it while it sped off.

Then the van was later found unoccupied in the 7500 block of South State Street. Three officers, including the one hit by the vehicle, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The SUV driver is in good condition, but the driver of the van is in critical condition.
