Plenty of things can go wrong during a traffic stop. However, it’s not every day when a police officer gets briefly kidnapped. An Ohio truck driver fled the scene with an officer inside the cabin. This added abduction to a long list of charges.

Ohio police officer gets kidnapped during traffic stop

Police officers in Dayton, Ohio, initiated a traffic stop after spotting multiple violations. For example, the truck has an illegal window tint and expired tags. The driver pulled over near East Third and North Keowee streets.

According to Dayton Daily News, officers realized the suspect, identified as 46-year-old Gary L. Pullen has a long criminal history involving firearms.

An officer approached the vehicle, noticing Pullen was hiding things in a black bag. He didn’t have a license and was asked to exit the vehicle. Upon being searched, Pullen tried to get back in his truck

Body camera footage shows the officer trying to pull Pullen back out of the truck and leaning inside. Then Pullen accelerates, taking off with the officer hanging out of the cab.

A police chase briefly ensued before Pullen crashed into a snow bank about 1,500 feet away from the traffic stop. He was quickly taken into custody. Reportedly, the officer thought Pullen was reaching for a weapon.

Lieutenant Eric Sheldon shares, “The suspect had marijuana and suspected narcotics in his possession in the black bag that the officer saw the suspect manipulating had a loaded firearm inside.”

Pullen faces charges for abduction, failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, obstructing official business, and three weapons charges.
