Chaos erupted in Queens at 6 AM one Friday morning. The scene was like something straight out of Gone in 60 Seconds or the latest Fast & Furious movie. But there were no special effects here. The NYPD bullets and broken glass were very real.

A 10-person crew of car thieves nabbed five luxury sports cars from an autobody shop at 33rd Avenue and Prince Street. The vehicles in crime scene photos include multiple Mercedes coupes, a BMW, and a Porsche SUV.

Once the criminals all drove out of the dealership, they made a critical error. They appeared to circle up their cars to chat at the intersection of 32nd Avenue and Farrington Street. Maybe they were making plans where to take their convoy of stolen vehicles. Maybe they just thought they’d made a clean getaway and were gloating.

The NYPD spots the luxury sports car thieves

A police officer noticed the bizarre convergence of luxury sports cars. The NYPD officer made a u-turn and followed the stolen cars. That’s when the suspects realized the gig was up. What ensued was pure chaos.

At least two of the criminals ran their newly-stolen cars into one another. Another suspect pointed his car at the police officers and floored it. In response, an NYPD officer opened fire. It appears no criminals were hit.

The NYPD reports its recovered four of the five vehicles. It’s also taken at least two of the suspects into custody. The remainder of the crew fled north on Miller Street. The police are looking for anyone connected to the crime, including anyone with injuries from the chase and shooting. The only injury the NYPD suffered was one officer’s tinnitus from the gunshots.
