NY teens steal a car and crash it into a police car in broad daylight
The internet is brimming with stories of young people making bad, stupid decisions. Oh, to be young. However, while some young rebels choose to sneak out, others swing for the fences. That’s certainly the case with these NY teens and their decision to steal a car, hit a police vehicle, and run like hell.
Choosing to steal a car, hit a Guilderland police vehicle, and flee on foot was hardly a good idea for a couple of NY teens
It’s yet another reminder that crime has no minimum age. Police officers in Guilderland, New York arrested two young boys from Schenectady at a popular shopping center. The law enforcement officers (LEOs) responded to reports of criminals attempting to steal a car at around 4:13 p.m. The vehicle’s owner alerted the police, after which the officers searched for the missing ride.
They found the stolen car and the joyriders on Crossgates Mall Road near the shopping center. Police officers attempted to stop the wayward vehicle and its young occupants, per the Times Union. However, the teenage car thieves didn’t give up. They didn’t try to run away with the stolen car, either.
No, they ditched the car in an attempt to lose the Guilderland police officers on foot. However, in another comedy of errors, the young joyriders neglected to put the vehicle in park. As a result, it rolled forward and crashed into a police car. Fortunately, authorities reported that no one was injured. What’s more, in a seemingly impossible turn of events, neither the stolen car nor the police cruiser sustained any damage.
Law enforcement chased the boys down and arrested them. The young car thieves are facing multiple felony charges. However, due to the state’s “Raise the Age” (RTA) law, it’s unlikely that the NY teens will receive adult charges. Fortunately, police were able to return the car to its owner. Good thing, too. Many thefts result in altered title status, meaning compromised resale value. In this case, it’s unlikely that the car’s title status will change.
