Everyone has an opinion on car buying. The best tactics, the best place to make a purchase, and, of course, the best vehicles to buy. And when it comes to picking the right new car, these mechanics have some familiar opinions… and one pretty pessimistic one.

Many of these mechanics agree on the best new car a buyer can choose

In a popular TikTok video, an interviewer took a camera around Eich Brothers, a busy shop full of mechanics. He asked everyone who would respond, “What is the best new car to buy in 2025?” A debatable topic, indeed.

“Dude, Toyota. Like literally anything Toyota,” the first mechanic answered. “The Tacomas are good, the Highlanders are good, I mean, dude, anything. If it has a Toyota or a Lexus logo on it, it’s good.”

“Toyota. It’s gonna be Toyota,” the second mechanic added. “Honda’s not a far second. But in terms of reliability and durability, you can’t beat Toyota.”

Sensing a trend here? The mechanics at Eich Brothers like the big T. And it didn’t stop there.

“Toyota Camry,” another shop employee responded succinctly. “Camry,” said another. “Or the Honda Civic, Honda Accord.”

And buyers have echoed those sentiments by opting for the Japanese brand. Last year, the Toyota RAV4 dethroned the seemingly unstoppable Ford F-150 in terms of overall sales. It’s the first time anything has sold better than the F-150 in the US in 42 years.

It’s not all praise for Toyota, though

“The best new car?” One of the mechanics repeated. “Dodge pickup trucks,” he answered, referring to RAM trucks.

It’s an answer that stirred up opinionated viewers. “Dodge pickup truck… Get the F outta here, dude,” one viewer replied. “Dodge pickup trucks? I don’t want him working on my car,” another cheeky commenter responded.

Other viewers were less than complimentary of Toyota. “It’s reliable, but boring,” one TikTok user said. Another commenter replied, “Toyotas are great cars, but sooo boring.”

One of the mechanics had a much more pessimistic view of the new car market

“Uh, nothing,” the mechanic responded. And not “nothing,” like he didn’t have an opinion, either. “I’m being so serious. Nothing new.”

Viewers agreed with his dark outlook on the new car market, too. “My man who said ‘nothing’ spoke the most truth,” one viewer replied. Another viewer with a similar lack of confidence in the market responded, “For some reason, I believe the last guy.”
