North Carolina town wonders about drunk ‘police’ SUV

Residents of Gastonia, North Carolina, are confused by a police SUV that might not belong to the police department. It has ‘POLICE’ written on the rear bumper, but multiple witnesses have seen it being driven erratically, like the driver is drunk.

One woman shared that she saw the vehicle near Hudson Boulevard and Union Road. The black SUV was tailgating another car and swerving between lanes.

It looked like a government or police vehicle. It has lights on top, ‘POLICE’ on the back, and a QR code. But it wasn’t using its lights.

According to Fox News, reporters followed the vehicle in question and were shocked by its behavior. It seemed like the driver was operating it like they had stolen it. As they followed it through an intersection, it performed a dangerous brake check.

Others shared that it almost hit them on their motorcycle, and another reported a hit-and-run. One resident reported the unit number and activities to the Gaston County Police Department. Police officers shared that they would look into it.

Officers also confirmed that the inceptor isn’t a Gaston County police vehicle. But members of the town want the department to take more action. Residents are worried about their safety due to the SUV’s erratic behavior.
