This Nissan Xterra decision could save the entire brand
You may have noticed that Nissan has been riding the struggle bus. It’s been working to improve sales since before new tariffs started shaking things up. However, the latest decision about the Nissan Xterra could get things back on track.
The Nissan Xterra Hybrid replaces the EV model
The Nissan Xterra has a cult following because of how epic it used to be. Hearts were shattered around the world when it was discontinued in 2015.
But over the past few months, there have been rumors about the Xterra making a triumphant return. Many sources suggested that the Xterra would come back as a fully electric SUV model.
Even though I enjoy reviewing electric vehicles, this information was a bit disappointing due to the declining interest in EVs. Plus, automakers haven’t figured out how to provide an affordable EV yet, and the $7,500 federal tax credit is ending.
New rumors suggest that the Nissan Xterra Hybrid is in the works instead. According to Automotive News, Nissan shared that the Xterra will return as an affordable, rugged mid-size SUV in 2028.
That’s sadly far away, but that’s better than never. Reportedly, Nissan America Chairman Christian Meunier shared designs of the boxy adventurer. It features an upright grille and square headlights.
However, it will have a unibody build. This may take away from its off-roading credibility as unibody frames aren’t as durable as body-onframe builds. Plus, they don’t allow as much suspension travel.
Also, it could have a hybrid V6 engine with a 75-mile electric range. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait to learn more.
