Automakers have been making significant choices as new tariffs ramp up. But did you ever predict that Nissan would build trucks for Honda in Mississippi? That wasn’t on my bingo card. Also, a new truck could be in the works.

Nissan might build trucks for Honda in Mississippi

In response to tariffs, Nissan and Honda could come together and grow their relationship. Both automakers currently build trucks in America. The Honda Ridgeline is built in Alabama, and the Nissan Frontier is produced in Mississippi.

According to Car and Driver, Nissan could build trucks for Honda at its current plant in Canton, Mississippi, as well. However, this move might be in order to provide a new truck inside to boost Ridgeline production.

These two Japanese companies have agreed to collaborate on projects, and Honda might be in the market for a Frontier-sized truck. The Frontier does have more cargo capacity and a larger towing capacity than the Ridgeline.

Honda could be looking to build a truck that’s more capable of doing truck stuff while maintaining a unibody design. So the trucks could have a Nissan body with Honda components, like the Honda Frontier.

But the automakers have also dabbled with the idea of building a new full-size truck together. Meaning they might be building the Honda Titan together, as the Nissan Titan was discontinued, leaving a gap in the market.

However, Nissan does have underutilized capacity at its plants. There is space to build extra Honda vehicles to help the automaker skirt around tariffs while beefing up Ridgeline production. But it’s unclear how much demand the Ridgeline has against popular rivals.
