Snowmobiling is a great way to connect with nature in the winter. But two riders on the New Hampshire-Maine border got a little closer to the wild than they’d planned when they found a young Moose trapped in the snow.
The riders later recounted that they rode by the animal once and assumed it was just chilling. It wasn’t until later that day that they realized it was dangerously chilled.
Jim Wuellenweber explained, “We circled back about three hours later. Found the moose in the same area. That’s when we decided we should stop and give it a helping hand.”
The snowmobile riders recorded a video with a cellphone while they tamped down the snow piled around the moose. This gave it room to get its back legs beneath its body. Then they cut some branches keeping the critter from standing up.
At the end of the video, the shocked moose stairs at the riders, still adjusting to its freedom. It’s nice to see it trusted them enough not to gallop off immediately. You can see the video and coverage embedded below:
