The Jeep SUV with the most awards also has the most problems 

The most awarded Jeep SUV is the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It not only dominates the Jeep lineup but is also considered the most awarded SUV ever. That means it has more on its trophy shelf than the Toyota RAV4, the most popular SUV to buy in the world. 

Since the Grand Cherokee was born in 1992, it has consistently racked up accolades for off-roading capabilities, comfort, value, tech, and safety. 

However, according to CarComplaints, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is also the Jeep SUV with the most problems. Drivers love to make fun of the Jeep Wrangler for being a piece of junk. 

While its solid axle makes it quite durable, it has 2,222 complaints. The Grand Cherokee blows that number out of the water with 3,514 reports of problems. 

Also, the Grand Cherokee 4xe has the fewest problems with 11. However, it has only been on the road since 2022 and doesn’t have many sales. 

The biggest Jeep Grand Cherokee problem is related to the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). It’s the central electronic control unit that powers the lights, wipers, fuel pump, and more. Many drivers reported that it caused the engine to stall without warning. 

The second biggest problem is related to the electronic shifter. People struggled with rough shifts, suddenly shifting into park while driving, loss of power, and slipping out of park while stopped. 

Then the third largest problem is related to the leather dashboard. Drivers report that it bubbles, wrinkles, and cracks. Also, the wrinkling could cause the passenger airbag to deploy.
