Moon Hotel Taking Million-Dollar Reservations for Space Golf Trips
Astronauts first set foot on the moon in July 1969. NASA plans to return in 2026. The goal is to establish a base to explore the rest of the solar system.
But they may not be alone.
A California startup is advertising what it calls “the first hotel on the moon.” The company will need your help—and your cash—to get there.
Galactic Resource Utilization Space has a lofty mission statement. “Humans cannot expand beyond Earth until we solve habitation on the Moon…When we solve off-world habitation, this is the ‘Promethean moment’ that will enable billions of human lives to be born on the Moon, Mars, and beyond.”
How lunar tourism would actually work
What does solving off-world habitation look like? Golf trips for multimillionaires on the moon.
GRU Space hopes to engineer lightweight, inflatable structures. Rockets would launch them to the moon. Each structure would house four people. The company hopes to “test” the hotels by 2031. It plans to open for business in 2032.
In the meantime, it is taking reservations.
GRU Space has opened reservations costing between $250,000 and $1 million. The price depends on how long you want to stay. It also depends on the experience you want.
GRU Space says it envisions activities such as “surface experiences including Moonwalks, driving, golfing, and other activities.”
Translation: If you want to ship your clubs to the moon, it will cost extra.
A reservation does not guarantee a room. If GRU succeeds, reservation holders must apply to become recreational astronauts. That process would likely require proving physical fitness.
Those approved would gain access to a private auction. Guests would bid on specific rooms for specific stays. GRU admits billionaires could push prices as high as $10 million.
