‘Immediately get rid of it’ Mechanics share how long to keep a Jeep Wrangler
Have you ever wondered how long you should keep a Jeep Wrangler? Well, you aren’t alone. But opinions about these SUVs vary. Mechanics each shared different answers about how long a Jeep Wrangler will last.
How long will a Jeep Wrangler last?
TikTok user @accurateautoinc walked through an auto repair shop and asked multiple mechanics how long you should keep a Jeep Wrangler.
The answer ultimately comes down to if the Wrangler was properly maintained and if you’re still enjoying it. However, not everyone agrees.
The first mechanic shared that Jeep generations matter. 2010 and newer models aren’t made the same as they once were.
They’ll make it to 250,000 to 300,000 miles, but it won’t be cheap getting there. With the newest models, they should make it to 100,000 miles. But models from before 2010 will last forever.
A man named Alex said to get rid of a Wrangler as soon as you buy it. Devin claims that you should keep a Wrangler until about 150,000 miles. Another man said Wranglers are pretty good and can last your whole life with proper care.
The next guy said newer models should be kept until 100,000 miles. Then one mechanic shared that with the 4.0-liter engine, your Wrangler is good for 200,000 miles, but the newer engines won’t go as far due to timing issues.
Last but not least, you should keep it as long as you can afford to fix it.
I’ve reached out to accurateautoinc to ask about the most common Wrangler problems they see.
How many miles will a Wrangler last?
The guys in the TikTok video above explained that a Jeep Wrangler can last between 100,000 miles to forever based on the generation, engine, and care.
According to Copilot Search, an average Wrangler model will last between 10 to 15 years with proper care. With regular care, some models will make it to 400,000 miles. However, an average model typically lasts between 100,000 and 280,000 miles.
A Wrangler isn’t considered to have high mileage until it reaches 200,000 miles. The 3.6-liter V6 Pentastar motor is extremely reliable. One even made it about 626,000 miles.
What’s the most reliable Jeep Wrangler generation?
The second Jeep Wrangler generation is widely considered to be the most reliable. This is the TJ, and it took place from 1997 to 2006. It has the fewest number of reported problems. Plus, the 4.0-liter engine is solid.
The current generation has a J.D.Power reliability rating of 80 out of 100, which is average. Scores between 70 and 80 are average, while rankings between 81 and 90 are above average, and anything between 91 and 100 is best.
