Florida police officers are issuing a special thank you to residents of Flagler County. They helped police officers keep track of a thief.
Officers responded to reports of shoplifting at a Lowe’s store. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Michal Daversa, was spotted in the process of stealing $1,500 in merchandise.
He abandoned the items and ran off, evading arrest. Then, a concerned citizen reported seeing a man riding on the back of a UPS truck along Palm Coast Parkway.
According to Fox 35 Orlando, the UPS driver eventually stopped and forced Daversa to get off the box truck near Lupia Court.
From there, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office’s Problem Area Crime Enforcement United detectives and Real TimeCrime Center tracked his movements. They confirmed that the man on the back of the truck was their shoplifting suspect.
Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staley shared that thanks to a citizen seeing something and saying something, they were able to get a thief off the streets.
Plus, it was done safely. Things could have been detrimental for Daversa if he had fallen off the UPS truck in traffic. Even at low speeds, he could have suffered serious injuries or been hit by another car.
