Last week, police arrested a Delaware man after he called them to get his personal items back from a towed car. There was just one problem with his request, though. The items that he wanted were inside a vehicle that he allegedly stole.

According to the New Castle County Police Department, a Hyundai Sonata was stolen from its parking spot at 9:30 a.m. last Tuesday at Hunters Crossing Apartments. Fox 29 News reports that the victim stated someone took the car while they were warming it up and left it unattended with the keys inside.

On Wednesday, at approximately 11:45 a.m., the New Castle County Regional Communications Center received a call from a 21-year-old man. The man said he was trying to retrieve his personal belongings from a car that someone had towed. He also, according to police, told them that the personal property he was trying to recover was in a Hyundai Sonata that he had stolen the previous day.

Solving a stolen car case doesn’t get much easier

The police responded to the location the man provided, which just so happened to be on the same street where someone stole the Hyundai. Once there, officers reportedly took him into custody without incident.

The stolen Hyundai Sonata was then located at a nearby towing company. The authorities also found the man’s personal items inside the vehicle.

The authorities then took the alleged car thief to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged him with one felony count of theft of a motor vehicle. They later released him on his own recognizance. It was unclear whether or not he finally got his personal items back.
