Maybe you’ve heard the words “routine traffic stop” tossed around on the news. Many police officers, however, hold that there is no such thing, that every stop is different, and they should be ready for anything. But the police officers who stopped this magician almost certainly didn’t expect him to juggle his way out of DUI suspicions. 

A magician juggled his way out of a possible DUI as the cops giggled like children

A wild social media video shows police questioning a young man at the scene of a traffic stop, likely on suspicion of a DUI. “What’s in your pocket?” the first officer asked. “This is going to sound really weird. I’m a magician. It’s a magic wand.” The next part was almost too predictable. “You don’t have to. I don’t want you to feel pressured,” the second cop said. The magician chuckled, “I’ll do some magic.”

A moment later, an officer finds the magician’s juggling clubs in the back of the parked Pontiac Grand Prix. “Let’s see it. C’mon!” “You just made my night. I gotta tell you,” the officer said with a smile. The magician agrees, feeling confident enough that he’s not getting a DUI to give one stipulation. The condition? Simply put, he wanted the cops to record him juggling his way out of a traffic stop.

Needless to say, it was worth the wait. The officers erupt with laughter as the magician juggles the clubs around his back and under his legs without skipping a beat. At one point, he even stands one of the clubs up on his nose as he continues juggling. 

Now, you might think it stupid that a police officer wouldn’t just insist that the magician also take a standardized field sobriety test (SFST). However, all three of the typical sub-tests in an SFST involve balance and coordination. The kind of balance and coordination you would need to expertly juggle your way out of suspicion, all without slurring a word. It was pretty obvious that this guy was an odd duck but not drunk.  

As you might imagine, the subject invited wild, whimsical, even whacky responses from commenters. “‘We thought he had drugs on him. We saw them, but they just disappeared,’” one viewer joked. Another commenter responded, “‘I can only juggle when I’m drunk.’” Either way, it was more than enough to make the DUI suspicions… disappear.
