Only 1 luxury SUV made the list of vehicles most likely to hit 250,000 miles
When you think of luxury vehicles, you might think of performance or bespoke interiors. But you probably don’t think of durability or reliability. It turns out you can have both. When iSeeCars released its list of the 10 vehicles most likely to hit 250,000 miles, the Lexus GX ranked number nine. Here’s the full rundown:
- Toyota Tundra
- Toyota Sequoia
- Toyota 4Runner
- Toyota Tacoma
- Toyota Highlander Hybrid
- Honda Ridgeline
- Chevrolet Suburban
- Toyota Avalon
- Lexus GX
- Chevrolet Silverado 1500
You might notice a pattern in the above list: it’s absolutely dominated by Toyota vehicles—from the full-size Tundra pickup truck to the Avalon sedan. Lexus enthusiasts know that brand is just the luxury arm of Toyota Motor Corporation. So why does this GX rank so high?
The Lexus GX is a midsize SUV. That means it shares many components with reliable SUVs such as the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and 4Runner. The automaker first introduced this nameplate for the 2003 model year. While the Lexus GX shared a chassis with the Toyota 4Runner, it was historically assembled in Japan.
Toyota launched the third generation of the Lexus GX (the 550) for the 2024 model year. While it’s a midsize SUV, you can buy it with either the new 4Runner’s turbocharged I4 or a turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 borrowed from full-size SUVs and trucks (such as the Sequoia and the Tundra). Toyota sells the GX 550 in other markets as the latest Land Cruiser Prado.
Why does the Lexus GX last for so long? Simply put, it’s a sturdy body-on-frame midsize SUV. It has always shared its chassis with the durable 4Runner SUVs. Its powertrain is engineered for towing, its suspension for serious off-roading. But many of these luxury SUVs stick to pavement. According to iSeeCars, over one-fifth of Lexus GX SUVs are still on the road after 250,000 miles. That makes this luxury SUV 2.4 times more likely to hit ultra high mileage than the average vehicle.
Many Lexus buyers keep their SUVs a long time. In fact, 5.2% of all Lexus vehicles on the road are still with their first owner after 15 years. Want to know more? Check out new Lexus GX listings near you.
