There’s good news and bad news for Lexus SUVs. The good news is that these luxurious models are selling like hot cakes. But the bad news is that many buyers are facing massive delays due to inventory shortages.

Lexus SUVs face long delays

It’s unclear if Lexus SUVs should celebrate their success or panic due to massive waiting times. The autobrand hasn’t released a detailed sales report for 2025 yet. However, it expects to have sold over 360,000 models in 2025 for a year-over-year sales increase of 5%.

According to CBT News, buyers could be waiting for weeks to months to secure a new SUV in 2026. Lexus inventory levels are hitting record lows

Dealerships have less than a three-day supply. However, other new-vehicle inventories have about an 88 day supply. That means drivers are scrambling to pay sticker price for vehicles or going outside of their immediate area to find particular models.

Lexus models like the RX, GX, and TX are highly popular. Hybrid SUVs are flying even faster off the lot. However, Toyota and Lexus have both noticed a decline in sales for fully electric models.

The delay of Lexus SUVs could be caused by new tariffs as they’re imported from Japan. But it’s working to increase the output of the GX and the TX model that’s built in the United States.

Also, there is an ongoing semiconductor chip shortage in the auto industry. These chips are needed for advanced electronics such as audio and safety systems.

New or recently redesigned models could be delayed as production facilities are renovated to build updated SUVs. Plus, they could face delays related to quality control inspections.

Either way, if the model you want is sitting on the lot, you may want to pull the trigger to avoid waiting for months.
