Lamborghini Driver Tries to Zip Past a Mini, Slams Into Parked Car and Bursts Into Flames
The driver of a Lamborghini Avantador learned the hard way why people often say “patience is a virtue.” He also learned that there is a reason for those solid no passing lines on the road.
While attempting to overtake a Mini Cooper in Remuera, Auckland in the oncoming lane, the Lamborghini driver misjudged the maneuver. As he tried to quickly shoot back into the proper lane, the right rear of his Avantador clipped the Mini. That was all it took to send the very expensive hypercar into a violent spin.
The V-12-powered Lambo then proceeded to slam very hard into the back of a parked car, appearing to pretty much total it. Shortly thereafter, the Avantador burst into flames.
An eyewitness to the scene told the New Zealand Herald, “The smoke started to get quite big. People were sort of backing away, like we didn’t know if it was going to blow. We were definitely feeling quite anxious watching the whole thing. I felt bad for the owner. I was just like, of all the cars.”
Luckily no one was reported to be injured and Fire and Emergency New Zealand were able to quickly put out the fire.
The driver of the Lamborghini Avantador, a 39-year-old man, was ordered to appear in the Auckland District Court on November 14 on charges of dangerous driving. So now, in addition to having to pay for all of the damage he caused to three cars, he also faces a maximum penalty of three months in jail or an approximately $2,500 fine and the loss of license for six months.
