The Ford F-150 is the people’s truck. There isn’t another pickup truck that even comes close to filling the same place as the F-150. From pickup truck culture to sales to off-roading, Ford F150s cover every aspect of the trucking world. While many critics have found various issues with the new F-150, Kelley Blue Book picked the people’s favorite pickup truck as the best pickup truck of 2023 so far.

The best pickup truck for 2023

Kelley Blue Book found a lot to love about the 2023 Ford F-150. For such a classic truck to remain in one of the most competitive automotive markets shows Ford’s willingness to change the secret formula to stay current. If nothing else, the F-150’s ability to adapt after all these years is remarkable.

KBB explains that the Ford F-150 is an all-time best seller for good reason. Despite not having a diesel (which really is pretty insane), the F-150 covers badass off-roading, simple work trucks, luxury comfort, and mostly anything else in between.

Because of the wide range of F-150s models, the driving experience is pretty varied. The base work truck is far from the F-150 Raptor R, which is equally far from the F-150 Platnium. But speaking generally, the F-150 is a good drive.

KBB not only calls the ride smooth and relatively comfortable, but the two types of engines – V6 and V8 – also offer equally predictable and smooth power. Of all the engine options available, KBB reviewers preferred the EcoBoost options, the 2.7-liter, and the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 versions. KBB also gives a special shoutout to the hybrid V6 as a powerhouse engine that prioritizes efficiency.

Is the 2023 Ford F-150 a nice pickup truck?

KBB calls its choice for the best pickup truck for 2023’s interior functional and practical. However, depending on the trim, the Ford F-150’s interior can also be quite upscale and technological. Its interior ranges from plain vinyl seats to leather-clad massaging seats that would fit in a cigar lounge.

The Ford F-150’s best features

KBB lists its favorite features, from technical specs to creature comforts. Ford claims the best in class for towing and payload hauling. The 2023 Ford F-150 can haul up to 3,325 lbs in the bed and tow up to 14,000 lbs.

The F-150 has six different engine options (seven if you count the Raptor tuning as its own engine). Along with these engine options, there is also a wide variety of trim options, from the luxurious King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited trims. KBB also points out the performance trims; Raptor, Raptor R, Tremor, and the new Rattler package. All of these come with various powerplants, tuned suspension, and bigger wheels and tires.

This variety is a huge part of why Kelley Blue Book picked the people’s champ as the best pickup truck for 2023. There is a trim for everyone. Even though the F-150 doesn’t offer a diesel option, it still covers so many bases, even out towing the oil burners.
