Jeep and Ram are forced to revise built-in-America wording in ads
Stellantis doesn’t need to face even more trouble right now. However, agencies claim that Jeep, Ram, and Dodge have deceptive advertising around their built-in-America slogans. They could violate the law because they aren’t 100% built in the USA.
Jeep and Ram revise built-in-America advertising
Nothing feels more American than the Jeep Wrangler or Ford F-150. However, these vehicles outsource parts from countries all over the world.
Now Stellantis is facing heat for advertisements that claim that Jeep, Ram, and Dodge models are made in America. According to Truth in Advertising, the American born slogans are deceptive and violate the law.
Products that are marketed as being built or made in the USA are required to be free of foreign content. Reportedly, no vehicles meet that definition.
The Jeep Wrangler is built with 68% of American content. The Dodge Durango has 73% and the Ram 1500 has 55% United States content. Each vehicle has engine, transmission, and motor components from other countries like Mexico and Italy.
They aren’t technically made in the USA, but they are assembled here with tons of imported parts. But Stellantis can promote its assembly plants in America that create jobs and strengthen the economy.
Embellishing the amount of manufacturing that occurs domestically is illegal and harmful during this vulnerable time for drivers who are shopping for new cars.
Stellantis has removed ads on YouTube with potentially deceptive wording. It may have to pull TV commercials in America as well.
On an interesting note, the Ford F-150 is made with 57% foreign parts. The most ‘American-made’ truck is actually the Honda Ridgeline.
