Why Aren’t These Hybrid Jeep 4xe Models in America?
It’s true. Jeep did say they would try to provide each Jeep model with a hybrid version by 2022. However, Jeep didn’t say that each of these hybrid models would be available in America. So, you might not be able to buy the Jeep Renegade 4xe or Hybrid Jeep Compass.
The Jeep Renegade and Jeep Compass 4xe debut overseas
Jeep is launching 4xe plug-in hybrid models of the Renegade and Compass in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, while the United States only gets the Jeep Wrangler 4xe so far. This is unfortunate news because these are some pretty incredible hybrid Jeep models.
Both the Renegade and Compass 4xe are gaining a power boost that we would enjoy stateside. Both models will share a powertrain that includes a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with two electric motors. There is one motor for each axle.
This automatic 6-speed transmission build pumps out 190-hp in the Longitude and Latitude trims. However, the Trailhawk trim will pump out 240-hp. That’s quite the upgrade from the 2020 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk that only has 180-hp.
Hybrid Jeep 4xe power
The Jeep Renegade is powered by an 11.1-kilowatt hour battery pack that’s mounted under the rear seats. It has 26 miles of electric range before gas kicks in. That’s a little less than the 31 miles of electric range that Jeep suggested these models will have.
When the Jeep Renegade is in electric mode, it can reach 81 mph, but its top speed in hybrid mode is 124 mph. Both models will also have an ‘Intense eCoasting,’ mode that increases the amount of regenerative braking when the throttle and brake pedal are released to gain a charge.
With the use of a standard household outlet, the Jeep Renegade can be fully charged in five hours. However, you can purchase an at-home charging station to fully charge the Jeep Renegade 4xe in under two hours.
Jeep Renegade 4xe capability
The hybrid Jeep Renegade and Jeep Compass 4xe models are two tiny crossover SUVs with true off-roading abilities. Rivals such as the Kia Seltos and Subaru Crosstrek are only available in all-wheel-drive.
Jeep wanted to preserve their off-roading reputation, which is why the Jeep Renegade 4xe and Compass will be even better for hitting the trails than ever before.
This is partly due to the fact they both models will have more torque. Plus, the dual-motor setup allows for the power distribution to be more even and more easily controlled.
The Selec-Terrain system provides settings for the Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade to automatically adjust to changing conditions. The driving muds include mud, sand, and snow. The Trailhawk trims get an additional rock crawling mode, and you can lock the system in 4×4. A low ranger 4×4 mode is also included.
Both models will have over 100 Mopar accessories available to enhance off-roading and urban driving abilities. The Mopar 4xe Pack includes a blue ring in the seven-slot grille, premium mats, and blue styling accents.
However, in a reply to a tweet complaining about the Jeep Renegade not being available in America, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe account replied with, “Never know”. Could this mean that there’s hope for the Renegade and Compass 4xe in the United States?
Jeep hasn’t commented on if the Jeep Renegade 4xe or Compass will come to the United States at a later date. But we can expect the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe to hit dealership lots soon.
