Ask anyone who has spent time wrenching on cars, and they’ll have their opinions on reliability. These mechanics at Dartt Automotive in Indiana are no different. Unfortunately for Jeep and other Stellantis brands, the techs at Dartt don’t have many nice things to say.

The mechanics have strong opinions about the least reliable rides– Jeep and Stellantis brands don’t fare very well

A TikTok user approached his fellow coworkers at Dartt Automotive with a single question. “What car brand has so many issues that it basically pays your rent?” You might expect a steady diet of Jaguar and Maserati responses.

But the reality was very, very different. “I would say Jeep, Chrysler, anything Stellantis,” the first mechanic responded.

“A runner-up would be Hyundai or Kia, but Jeep and, for sure, Chrysler,” he added. “They have a lot of engine failures, transmission failures, tons of electrical issues, and just oddball stuff.”

“I might have to say Chrysler,” another mechanic answered. “Chrysler, Dodge, all that,” he said, singling out Stellantis brands. “Everything on it is gonna break.”

Another mechanic, Scott, asserted that General Motors was the worst culprit. “General Motors, especially [Chevrolet] Traverse and Equinoxes.” Another mechanic agreed with Scott, saying that GM’s turbocharged 1.4L inline-four is especially issue-prone.

Viewers say that American cars are uniquely problematic

Granted, some viewers were also less than keen on Stellantis brands. “You’ll never get in an accident in a Jeep!” one commenter posted. Sounds good, right? Not so much. “Because they’re always safe at the shop.” Ouch.

Other social media goers maintained that the reliability issue is bigger than Stellantis. “So basically American cars,” another viewer added. They’re not alone. “Okay, avoid American cars, got it,” a fellow opinionated TikToker responded.

Jeep comes in toward the bottom of the reliability rankings

While the mechanics at Dartt Automotive are entitled to their opinions, reliability rankings back their statements up. According to Consumer Reports, Jeep ranks No. 19 on the list of 22 popular brands in terms of overall predicted reliability.

The comment about American cars holds up to the rankings, too. The four brands with the worst predicted reliability are all American, namely Jeep, GMC, Cadillac, and Rivian. On the other hand, Subaru, Lexus, Toyota, and Honda take the top spots.
