The Jeep Compass Hybrid gets engine from new Jeep Cherokee

The latest rumors suggest that the Jeep Compass Hybrid will be using the same engine as the upcoming Jeep Cherokee Hybrid. That means that these SUV siblings are sharing a powertrain. 

But it’s a little unclear which new Jeep we get to see first. The next-generation Compass got held up in America due to new tariffs. 

According to Mopar Insiders, it was supposed to debut months ago, but it has only started rolling out in Europe. The American model was scheduled to enter production at the Brampton Assembly Plant in Ontario, but Stellantis hit the brakes 

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee Hybrid could debut any day now as Stellantis continues to release teasers. Details about the new hybrid engine were “accidentally” leaked on the Jeep site to spur interest. 

It’s expected to be a  turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an electric motor. Reportedly, it will get about 38 mpg combined. 

Drivers who want hybrid efficiency can save thousands by going with the Compass instead of the larger Cherokee. Due to being lighter, it could do even better on gas. 

The Jeep Compass EV has been scrapped in America. Interest in electric vehicles is declining in the United States. Plus, the hybrid model probably has a much lower cost than the fully electric one.
