The owner of a Jeep Cherokee was plagued with a dangerous problem that dealerships ignored. As a result, the owner is lucky to be alive after the problem caused a dangerous traffic accident. Also, they aren’t alone, as other drivers have complained about the same issue.

Dealership ignores dangerous Jeep Cherokee problem

A woman named Carmen was happy with her 2017 Jeep Cherokee at first. But the new SUV bliss didn’t last long as problems appeared at 2,300 miles.

The Cherokee experienced rough shifting, the failure to shift, drop shifting into gear, suddenly accelerating, and overriding the braking system in reverse.

Sometimes the shifter wouldn’t properly go into gear. She had to cut the engine off to get the SUV to stop accelerating.

She took it to a dealership, and they kept the SUV for six weeks, but she only drove it six miles. Technicians said they failed to replicate the issue, but her Cherokee continued to have transmission problems.

On her way to the next dealership appointment, the Jeep wouldn’t stop accelerating and slammed into another car. It wouldn’t respond to the brake pedal and continued suffering forward while placed in park.

A STAR case found that the ground wires to the transmission weren’t properly installed, and the SUV was repaired. But at 5,000 miles, the same problems continued, but the dealership claimed it was unable to duplicate the problem again.

According to CarComplaints, after providing video evidence, Jeep claimed the problem wouldn’t be covered under warranty unless the engine or transmission failed completely. She was told to pick her Jeep up immediately.

Jeep has since issued a transmission recall due to PTU input spline failures leading to roll-away risks, brake failure, a sudden loss of power, and shifting issues.
