The internet is being surprisingly complimentary about the new Dodge Charger
Dodge and Stellantis hit fans with two controversial, almost sacrilegious developments for the Charger in the last couple of years. In essence, the historically muscle-bound and fuel-swilling Charger would return from the dead as an EV and an inline-six model. No HEMI V8 in sight.
But the new Mopar is finally getting accolades from internet goers. Not the Daytona EV, though. These attaboys are aimed squarely at the upcoming Dodge Charger Sixpack and its Hurricane I6.
After giving the new Dodge Charger Daytona EV a hard time, fans are applauding the incoming inline-six-powered version
When former Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis introduced the new Dodge Charger, the model was met with a mixed response. On the one hand, fans celebrated the new Charger’s angular, retro-throwback styling. On the other, critics slammed the “electric muscle car” for not offering a HEMI V8.
More recently, however, a video surfaced on Reddit of a red Dodge Charger blasting down the street at Bagley Street and Cass Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. From the look of it, police had cordoned off the area so the Charger could get some action shots with a drone. But this video didn’t have an energetic song playing behind it, giving the viewers a chance to listen to the car.
The red coupe squatted and broke traction at its rear tires while it pumped out a pleasing inline-six cylinder soundtrack. This isn’t the Daytona, it’s the upcoming Sixpack and its twin-turbocharged Hurricane inline-six-cylinder engine. Can anyone say 4 Series-fighter?
And the numbers back things up. Dodge says the upcoming Sixpack will produce 420 horsepower in its base configuration. But the H.O., or “High-Output,” will summon 550 horsepower from its six-cylinder mill. That’s more than any current production Ford Mustang, save for the $325,000 Mustang GTD.
Reddit users had nice things to say about the red six-cylinder Mopar
Car fans and Detroit natives had complimentary things to say about the six-cylinder Charger. “As someone who enjoys a good straight 6 engine, I’m not upset by this,” one user said.
“That I6 sounds quite good,” another commented. “Agreed! And they are putting out 550HP. Putting out more horses than a stock Scat Pack,” a user said in response.
