An insurance company claims that a Japanese automaker is to blame for multiple house fires. The Nissan Pathfinder caught on fire inside an owner’s garage and quickly spread. This was after it was taken to a dealership to be repaired under recall due to a fire risk.

An insurance company sues Nissan after Pathfinder burns homes

There was a massive recall involving over 215,000 Nissan SUVs and cars. It includes the 2015 – 2017 Murano, 2016 – 2017 Maxima, and 2017 – 2018 Pathfinder.

These models are under recall due to a fire risk. They could be equipped with an anti-lock brake actuator that allows fluids to leak. This could cause an electrical short or start a fire.

People were warned to stop driving their vehicles and to park outside, away from structures. The remedy involved Nissan technicians inspecting vehicles and replacing the brake actuator at no cost to owners.

However, an insurance company in Newark, Delaware, claims that one owner’s Nissan Pathfinder wasn’t correctly fixed.

In June 2024, an owner parked his 2017 Nissan Pathfinder in his garage and went inside. Then it caught fire, and his neighbor told him smoke was coming from the garage.

Firefighters arrived and put out the blaze, but it reignited a few hours later. The blaze damaged multiple homes and a neighbor’s Honda Acura.

According to Auto News, the incident occurred after the owner received a recall notice and took his Pathfinder in for service. The impacted components were allegedly replaced.

Therefore, his insurance company blames Nissan for failing to correctly repair the Nissan Pathfinder. It’s suing the dealership that reportedly repaired the SUV for over $700,000 for the property damage caused by the fire.
