The Hyundai Palisade faces a lawsuit over alleged brake defects
Oh no, the Hyundai Palisade may have to show up in court. A lawsuit claims that this popular SUV has brake defects. The plaintiffs claim that Hyundai knew about the problem during pre-production testing, but sold it anyway.
A class action lawsuit claims the Hyundai Palisade has brake defects
Have you had trouble stopping in your Hyundai Palisade? Well, you might not be alone. This SUV faces a class action lawsuit over alleged ABS and/or traction control system faults.
According to Car Scoops, plaintiffs claim that the vehicle misreads wheel speed while braking on rough or uneven pavement.
Reportedly, this causes the brakes to quickly release or reapply, leading to longer stopping distances. Also, the SUVs may skid and provide a rough performance. The complaints involve Palisade models from 2023 to 2025.
The plaintiffs claim that one dealership said the ABS’s performance was normal. But another one said it didn’t know what was causing the problem or how to correct it.
Plaintiffs have cited complaints on various online forums dating back to 2023 that involve the ABS defect. So, the lawsuit alleges that Hyundai knew about the defect during pre-production testing.
One complaint with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) shared that a driver was traveling five mph when a small bump caused the ABS brakes to kick in, but the SUV didn’t stop until the emergency system kicked in.
Three plaintiffs from New York and Ohio want to represent all Palisade owners and have requested a jury trial. They are pursuing damages and restitution for the alleged defect. Hyundai hasn’t made a public response to the claims as litigation is still unfolding.
