Video: Hero sprints across train tracks to save stranger with seconds to spare
What would you do if someone collapsed onto train tracks, just as the engine’s headlights rounded the bend? Most of us would freeze. Some might yell. But one man in Russia didn’t hesitate. With a train seconds away, he sprinted toward the danger.
Security footage from Derbent, Russia shows a man stumbling toward the train tracks in the evening haze. He pauses, teeters, then collapses—face-first—right onto the rails. Was he drunk? Was he sick? Was he suffering heat stroke? It’s unclear. But it’s obvious he was in trouble.
Out of nowhere, another man sprints from the shadows. First, he leaps the tracks. Then, he grabs the collapsed stranger like a sack of potatoes and yanks him off the line. A moment later, the train barrels through.
You can see it all play out on camera. The hero clears the tracks with less than a second to spare. The wheels practically kiss his heels.
Russia now hunting for train-track hero
The Russian newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda says they’re trying to find the man. They want to honor him for saving a life. And fair enough—how often do you see someone jump onto active train tracks for a total stranger? We may never know his name—but the man he saved will never forget him.
