Stellantis might be admitting that it made a huge mistake with Ram, Dodge, and Jeep when it dropped HEMI V8 engines. While the automaker wants to go green, drivers want to be mean with gas-powered muscle.

HEMI V8 engines are going back into production

Welcome HEMI V8 engines back from the dead. Most of the beefiest gas-powered options were discontinued by Stellantis. As a result, sales started to decline even more.

So the automaker has decided to pump the brakes by brining the beloved power houses back, while continuing to go green.

According to Mopar Insiders, the Dundee Engine Plant (DEP) in Michigan is coming back online. It will restart 5.7-liter HEMI V8 production. Other variants of the HEMI V8 will be produced there as well.

Expect every large engine except for the 6.4-liter ‘Big Gas Engine’ to be produced there. The 6.4-liter option is for Ram Heavy-Duty trucks. The 6.4-liter Apache V8 and supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI HELLCAT V8 engines are scheduled to be built.

The HEMI V8 engine family used to be manufactured at the Saltillo North Engine Plant in Saltillo, Mexico. But production ended there to focus on the new twin-turbocharged Hurricane inline-six engines.

Drivers were deeply saddened when the existing stock ran out as it seemed like the HEMI V8 was dead. Now instead of ditching them, Stellantis will keep them around and provide enhancements.

Leaked documents suggest that a new larger-displacement HEMI engine is in the works. Plus, Ram mentioned that it needs to offer cheaper trucks.
