A Greensboro man is headed to federal prison after being convicted of running a multi-state operation that involved stealing and reselling luxury cars.

Jamarus Hoskins, 30, was sentenced to federal prison following his conviction last November. A judge in Alabama gave him five years for conspiracy. He also received over eight years for possession and sale of stolen vehicles. The sentences will run at the same time.

According to court records, between late 2020 and early 2023, Hoskins organized a group that targeted luxury vehicles across several states. The list of cars included Lamborghinis, Porsches, a Corvette from Tennessee, three Ford trucks, and a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk from Michigan.

Once the cars were taken, investigators said the group would swap out the VINs and register them using fake out-of-state paperwork

Hoskins often brought the vehicles back to Tuscaloosa, where they were sold for cash, AL.com shared. The deals usually happened under market value. Investigators said he coordinated the effort using burner phones, group chats, and coded messages.

One message pulled from his iCloud account included a chart labeled “Juke responsibilities.” The list of tasks had items like “sell the cars,” “deal with clients,” and “start everybody LLC.”

Reportedly, he also wrote, “I’m the one going to prison at the end of the DAY FOR RUNNING A ORGANIZED CAR RING, but f[ ] it, that’s how I’m going out….I love you all 5L and please be safe. Let’s eat.”

Law enforcement made contact with Hoskins more than once during the investigation. In August 2021, police stopped him in Tuscaloosa driving a stolen Jeep Trackhawk. That stop ended in a foot chase. Later that same month, he was pulled over in Jefferson County behind the wheel of a stolen Jeep Wrangler. Authorities took him into custody.

The FBI and Tuscaloosa Police Department investigated the case. Federal prosecutors say the group’s activity reached into multiple states and involved dozens of cars valued in the millions.
