Man rides golf cart tied to truck with garden hose onto highway
Cody Agasi Horn (28) was steering a golf cart on Highway 4 near San Andreas when he died in a head-on collision, according to the California Highway Patrol.
I know what you’re thinking—a golf cart on the highway! The truth is, another vehicle was towing Agasi Horn’s 1998 Yamaha golf cart down the road. And how was it towing Agasi Horn? He’d tied a garden hose between his golf cart and this other vehicle.
Was this bizarre incident a drunken stunt? Or was Agasi Horn simply taking a shortcut to transport his golf cart? It’s hard to tell. The accident occurred at 4:55 AM on a Tuesday. I suppose if I were soberly attempting to tow a golf cart down the road and avoid the police, that might be a great time to give it a shot.
Whatever the reason Agasi Horn was cruising in the golf cart, he swerved into the wrong lane and collided with a 2000 Ford F-550. The crash threw him from the vehicle, and he died at the scene.
The story doesn’t end there. The F-550’s driver, despite staying in his own lane, chose to flee the scene of the crash. Police have since tracked him down.
Agasi Horn earned a Darwin Award, granted for removing himself from the gene pool in spectacularly stupid fashion. And I don’t disagree. But when the CHP posted its press release on Facebook, his family made it clear what a tragedy the whole thing had been.
Josh Horn said, “My little brother so upset and lost, don’t understand and most likely never will! Miss you little brother I’am [sic] lost for words!!” Sarah Elizabeth Screeton added, “He was my little brother, he was a great father, son, brother and friend. Who ever [sic] fled the scene needs to turn themselves in!!!”
Like Josh Horn, we’ll likely never know exactly what happened that fateful morning. But suffice it to say: any late-night golf cart shenanigans you partake in should steer far clear of the highway!
