GM and Chevrolet have a few new recalls for pickup trucks and EVs across the lineup. The Chevrolet Blazer EV bears the brunt of the recalls, while fewer than 2,000 Silverado and Sierra pickup trucks also make the list. Unfortunately, both issues could lead to damage, injury, or worse.

New GM, Chevrolet recalls include 41,891 vehicles for potentially dangerous parking brake and airbag inflator issues

General Motors has issued recalls for multiple vehicles across the GM and Chevrolet product lineups. For starters, certain 2024 and 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EVs may exhibit a dangerous parking brake fault. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 40,233 Blazer EVs are involved in the recall between the two model years.

As for the specific fault, the NHTSA says, “The design routing of the parking brake wire harness does not sufficiently inhibit flexing of the wires that may cause shorting or breaking of the wires from normal driving conditions.” As a result, the Blazer EV’s parking brake could actuate while driving, increasing the likelihood of a crash. The parking brake could also fail while engaged, leading to a dangerous vehicle rollaway.

In addition to the Blazer EV, GM recalls report that certain Silverado and Sierra models may have an explosive airbag fault. The recall cites 1,658 Silverado and Sierra pickup trucks from the 2018 and 2019 model years. According to the recall, a roof rail airbag inflator cap may become detached from the inflator itself, or the inflator’s sidewall may break. As a result, gases inside the airbag system may project fragmentation into the cabin, causing injury.

If you suspect your vehicle is included in the recall, you have a few options. For starters, GM and Chevrolet will mail notification letters on August 11, 2025. Beyond the snail mail option, you can check your vehicle’s recall status with the NHTSA’s VIN lookup tool. Dealer service centers will replace or repair the problematic components free of charge.
