Case closed! In this class action lawsuit related to General Motors trucks with defective CP4 fuel pumps has been settled. Those with qualifying heavy-duty GMC and Chevrolet trucks could receive up to $12,000.

General Motors CB4 fuel pump lawsuit settles for $50 million

Owners of older General Motors HD trucks may qualify for payouts between $400 and $12,000. The class-action lawsuit claims heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks with the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel engine had defective CP4 fuel pumps.

Reportedly, the Bosch CP4 fuel pump wasn’t designed for American diesel. American diesel provides less lubrication than European diesel, so it causes the pump to run dry.

As a result, the pumps create metal shavings and particles that cause catastrophic damage to the fuel system and engine. Plaintiffs shared that out of pocket repair costs reached up to $15,000 and that GM knowingly sold the trucks with faulty pumps.

Owners of 2011-2016 Chevy Silverado HD or GMC Sierra HD trucks with the 6.6-liter V8 LML Duramax engines purchased from a General Motors dealership between March 1, 2010, and September 13, 2024, may qualify.

Owners must reside in the following states:

  • California
  • Florida
  • Illinois
  • Iowa
  • New York
  • Pennsylvania
  • Texas

Class members qualify for $6,356 – $12,712 to cover repair costs that weren’t covered under warranty. There’s also a 12-month warranty extension to cover 50% of repair costs for trucks under 200,000. This may result in a $5,000 payout.

Those who no longer own their trucks and didn’t pay out of pocket for repairs may receive pro rata payments between $400 and $800.

According to Top Class Actions, owners must provide proof of purchase with VIN numbers, repair invoice, and bank/credit card statements.
