A recent survey of drivers in 18 countries worldwide reveals who people believe takes the greatest risks on the road. (Yes, we’re looking at you, Gen Z.)

According to respondents, drivers under 25-years-old are the riskiest group. This assessment was almost universal. In Australia, 90% said Gen Z. In the United Kingdom, 88% chose Gen Z, and in the United States, 84% did. And on and on it goes: New Zealand: 84%; Netherlands: 84%; Ireland: 82%; Canada: 82%. (The English-speaking world has a serious problem with Gen Z drivers, apparently.)

Overall, 77% of all respondents said drivers under 25-years-old are the most likely to take risks while driving. Only the lower end of the list was South Africa (67%), France (68%), Hungary (70%), Greece (71%), and Mexico (71%).

Which age group of drivers is the best?

The survey, conducted by comparison service Scrap Car Comparison, also revealed which age set people feel are the best drivers. Older millenials, those between 35 and 44-years-old, were deemed to have best driving skills.

Over 55 percent of respondents in Spain, Hungary, Germany, Poland, the Netherlands, Mexico, and Greece agreed with that assessment. Only 48 percent of those surveyed in the United States chose older millennials, however.

Meanwhile, South Africa (41%), Portugal (43%), Ireland (46%), the United Kingdom (46%), Chile (48%), and Italy (48%) had older millennials rated equal to or lower than the U.S.

At what age should people stop driving?

The survey also revealed at what age people believe they and others should stop driving. Almost half (48%) said people should quit driving with they hit their 70s, while 46% said in their 80s.

People aged 70 and older were the most common age group chosen to quit driving in Hungary (63%), Greece (59%), Chile (58%), Portugal (57%), and the Netherlands (57%).

65% of Italians chose the 80s as the time when they think people should stop driving. They were followed by New Zealand at 62%, Australia at 59%, France at 57%, and the U.S. at 56%. On the flip side, people driving in their 80s made the most people nervous in Greece, Poland, Hungary, South Africa, and Portugal.

Interestingly, 29% of people in South Africa said people should stop driving as early as their 60s. In Mexico, that number was 14%; in Chile, 10%; in Greece, 9%; and in the United States, 8%.
