Ford shatters General Motors recall record with over 7 dozen recalls in 2025
Every automaker wants to break records. Best-selling, fastest, most outrageous, you name it. But records can head in the other direction, too. Unfortunately for Ford, 2025 is a record year for the wrong reason. The Blue Oval issued nearly 90 individual recalls, smashing General Motors’ 2014 record in the first six months of 2025.
The latest Ford recall of over 850,000 vehicles is just one of 89 recalls in 2025 so far
Last week, General Motors recalled over 40,000 Chevrolet and GMC vehicles. It was a substantial safety callout for the automotive giant, with the Chevrolet Blazer EV leading the lot for parking brake issues. But that was nothing compared to a recent NHTSA notice that Ford named 850,000 vehicles for a faulty low-pressure fuel pump.
That issue includes the popular Ford Bronco, Expedition, and F-250 pickup truck. But the significant recall is just the latest in a pretty awful year for the Blue Oval’s overall record. The latest notices mark 89 recalls in the first six months of the year. The number far outpaces General Motors’ 77 individual recalls in 11 years ago in 2014.
If that wasn’t enough, Ford’s overall recall count is larger than the next five automakers combined. Not exactly a banner first half of the year for the Blue Oval. But that’s no guarantee that the latter half of 2025 will be as damaging for the brand’s esteem.
Before the latest notice naming 850,000 of the brand’s vehicles, Ford recalled the venerable Mustang for steering wheel issues in the 2022 and 2023 model years. Before that, the Michigan automaker issued notices for brakes, transmissions, and rear-facing cameras across the vehicle lineup.
As for the future of the brand, Ford says it’s working on correcting some of its quality control follies. But Ford’s CEO, Jim Farley, says correcting all of the brand’s issues could take years. He said that nearly three years ago.
