If you’ve been shopping for trucks, you have noticed that MSRPs haven’t changed much. This creates a sense of ease as tariffs don’t look like they’re impacting costs. However, the Ford F-150 and other vehicles figured out how to sneak tariff costs into your bill.

The Ford F-150 has secret tariff costs

Many drivers are facing price fatigue as the price of new vehicles continues to climb. Automakers are desperate to offset tariff costs while the MSRP sticker stays the same.

However, when it comes to vehicles like the Ford F-150, there are plenty of extra nonnegotiable fees tacked onto the MSRP, at the bottom of the sticker price.

The Ford F-150 is only one example of a vehicle that’s secretly passing tariff costs onto consumers in a way that’s hard to notice. It’s being added to the destination and delivery fee.

According to the Detroit Free Press, the F-150 has already increased the destination fee twice this year. In 2024, the destination fee for the F-150 was $1,995. Now it’s $2,595. Back in 2017, destination fees were under $1,000.

During the past four years, General Motors and Ford have increased destination fees by about 40%. Stellantis boosted destination fees for popular brands such as Jeep and Ram by roughly 33%.

The much smaller Ford Maverick comes with a $1,695 destination fee. Also, this fee can be raised multiple times per year. In the past, these fees were only raised annually.

Even if you live right beside the factory and pick up your brand new car at the gate, you have to pay the destination fee. This practice is hiding tariff costs in an extra charge that cannot be escaped.
