Ford crossovers recalled for rollaway risk
Ford Motor Company just announced a recall for its electric Mustang Mach-E crossover. The problem? The parking brake hardware may not engage, even when you shift the EV into “Park.” Ford’s hoping relatively few (276) vehicles will be affected by this problem.

The automaker’s announced that some Mustang Mach-E vehicles assembled between March 29th and April 23rd, 2025, have a parking brake issue. The problem is that even after the driver presses the “park” button, the park rod that holds the vehicle in place may not engage. Obviously, this makes the vehicles unsafe to drive, so during this recall Ford will examine and fix every Mach-E affected.
There’s an interesting bit of terminology at play here. Ford Authority reported this as an issue with the “transmission park rod assembly.” But the electric Mustang Mach-E doesn’t have a transmission in the traditional sense. But it does have a traditional gearshift select knob. You must spin this knob to “D” for the vehicle to move forward when you press the accelerator. You can also rotate it to “N,” “R,” or “P” like a traditional ICE vehicle.
Ford has committed to communicating with every owner of an at-risk Mustang Mach-E by September 22nd. It is not issuing a “do not drive” warning in the meantime. Perhaps that’s because this problem does not affect the vehicles’ electronic parking brake, so owners at least have that to fall back on. This is recall number 25C25.
This is not the only Mach-E recall, Ford also recently recalled the crossovers for a door lock issue. Curious if your Ford is subject to a recall? You can call your local dealership with your VIN handy, or plug your VIN in at NHTSA.gov.
