Florida police officers recently conducted close to 900 traffic stops in a single day, leading to almost 500 citations
Of course, no one wants to be subjected to a traffic stop. However, these encounters with police are necessary, along with the use of traffic cams, to keep streets safe. Recently, Florida law enforcement conducted a multi-agency operation to help reduce unsafe actions on the road. This police presence led to several hundred traffic stops, citations, and arrests.
Traffic stops are one of the easiest ways for police to keep the road safe
According to WFLA, the Florida Highway Patrol worked with 11 other law enforcement agencies to conduct a widespread safety operation on December 18th. This operation impacted 100 miles of US 19. Some agencies making the traffic stops include the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Clearwater Police Department, Tarpon Spring Police Department, and several others.
Notably, this is the second time in recent months that the Florida Highway Patrol has worked with other agencies to conduct traffic stops. Of course, this seems to have affected public safety in the state. In total, there were 488 citations and arrests, nine physical arrests, four DUIs, and 475 warnings. This comes out to 893 traffic stops, with 232 of those being for people speeding.
Of course, many may wonder about the reason for focusing on traffic stops. This police activity isn’t simply to get people into trouble. Instead, they intend operations like these to encourage road safety and to inspire drivers to make better decisions. The hope is that the fear of being pulled over will cause people to refrain from breaking the law. Of course, many areas use traffic cams to enforce the law, but these encounters with police still go a long way.
