One Florida man committed multiple break-ins. Was he looking for cash, electronics, or other valuables? Nope. It appears 22-year-old Daniel Alejandro Puga was undergoing a fashion makeover.

On Dec. 23, Puga waited until an auto parts store closed. He allegedly smashed the rear window of a pickup truck parked outside. His target was a special-edition cowboy hat bearing Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd’s name.

The truck’s owner was out of town. No one noticed the break-in for several days. That delay gave Puga time to enjoy his new accessory and, apparently, plan his next look. What pairs with a sheriff’s cowboy hat? A fire department shirt, of course.

A Christmas morning outfit upgrade

Around 5 a.m. on Christmas Day, Puga allegedly broke into the Winter Haven Fire Department’s administrative building. The office was closed for the holiday, giving him free run of the place.

Investigators say Puga entered the firefighters’ locker room and took a shower. He then rummaged through the office, leaving it in “disarray.” He eventually found what police believe he wanted: a Winter Haven Fire Department recruit shirt.

Someone reported the break-in around 7 a.m. Officers arrived to find Puga wearing the stolen cowboy hat and fire department shirt. He was also snacking on holiday candy left out in the office.

Police arrested Puga and booked him into jail. Prosecutors charged him with burglary of an unoccupied structure, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance, and two counts of petit theft.
