Florida man tries to run over a federal agent to get away from Texas police in a wild chase
Running from the police is a crazy undertaking. Crazy enough, in fact, that it often prompts people to do some desperate, wacky things to escape. In a recent case of Florida man versus the police, a driver attempted to run over a federal agent in the pursuit of freedom. Needless to say, things didn’t go his way.
A 54-year-old Florida man tried to run over a federal agent during a San Angelo, Texas, police chase
54-year-old Meren Ed Thompson attracted the wrong kind of attention. You know, the outstanding “felony warrant for possession of a controlled substance” kind.
That’s why sheriff’s deputies and the Department of Homeland Security wanted to arrest him. So, they tracked him down to San Angelo, Texas. But Thompson wasn’t about to go quietly.
According to KTXS 12, law enforcement attempted to serve the warrant when Thompson attempted an escape. He drove his vehicle at the officers, reportedly missing a federal agent by a minimal distance.
Fortunately, however, he didn’t succeed in running the Homeland Security investigator over. But Thompson still didn’t relent.
Police chased the Florida man through the northern tip of San Angelo before making the decision to intervene. Troopers reportedly used a “tactical vehicle intervention,” more commonly referred to as the PIT maneuver, to stop Thompson.
But before officers could arrest him, he fled on foot. Ultimately, it took a taser and “less lethal impact rounds,” like rubber bullets or bean bag rounds, to stop the outlaw. Understandably, authorities added evading arrest to his charges.
However, it’s unclear whether he’s looking at a charge for attempting to run over the federal agent. After all, killing a federal agent is punishable by a death sentence or life imprisonment, per Cornell Law School.
