Drones are ubiquitous now. Go to any outdoor music fest, race, or rally, and you’re sure to spot one of these buzzing little contraptions. We’re at a point where people use the technology for more than capturing video, like agricultural undertakings and deliveries.

But sometimes deliveries go wrong, like this Florida man trying to use his drone to fly drugs across a neighborhood.

A 49-year-old Florida man crashed his drone, leading to the discovery that it was toting a payload of meth and fentanyl

49-year-old Jason Brooks was flying his drone in Tampa Bay, Florida, when it crashed into a Lutz home. Brooks then endeavored to recover the drone, but not because it was a pricey toy.

According to police officers with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, Brooks started surveying the home in the hopes of finding his downed drone. He even resorted to knocking on the residence’s front door in the middle of the night.

The homeowners, understandably rattled by the presence of the Florida man at a late hour, notified the police. Deputies arrived at the home to find Brooks still searching for his drone.

Body cam footage showed officers inspecting the drone and its contents. Individual baggies contained some of the illicit substances, including a larger bag labeled, “Share this.”

To make things worse, Brooks was driving an unregistered vehicle with no plates. As a result, police added an “operating an unregistered vehicle” charge to possession of a controlled substance, driving without a license, and drug dealing charges.
