Every year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration releases scores of recall notices intended to highlight and ultimately fix issues as quickly as possible. But these notices don’t just apply to mass-market cars, trucks, and SUVs. The Ferrari Purosangue, the brand’s first SUV, has an open recall related to an electrical fault that could compromise braking performance and lead to a higher likelihood of a crash.

The Ferrari Purosangue, the brand’s first and only production SUV so far, is the subject of a safety recall

Ferrari and the NHTSA are warning Purosangue owners that an electrical issue could have potentially dangerous consequences if left unrepaired. The NHTSA recall notice says, “the layout of the fuse box’s power supply and the passenger-side footrest might cause a short circuit.”

That short circuit may cause the brake warning light to activate or decrease braking capability. Therein lies the greatest concern: an inability to stop when the driver really needs it. “If the driver does not heed the warning, the decreased braking capability could lead to a crash,” the recall notice reads.

Hundreds of Purosangue SUVs are involved

According to the notice, 541 Ferrari Purosangues from 2023 to 2025 are part of the recall. Additionally, while some notices will estimate that a smaller percentage of the recall population exhibits the problem, Ferrari estimates that 100% of the 541 recalled models have the issue.

Fortunately, like other recalls, Ferrari says it will fix impacted models at no cost to the owners. You would certainly hope that’s the case with a $434,000 luxury SUV.

An easy fix

The recall notice says that owners can bring their 2023-2025 Ferrari Purosangue SUVs to a service center. Technicians will then install a small plastic spacer between the footrest and fuse box, theoretically resolving the potential for a short.

The automaker says it will notify owners via mail by September. However, owners can use the NHTSA VIN lookup tool to verify if their vehicle makes the dreaded list.
