You don’t need the federal tax credit to get the Slate truck for under $20,000
It’s not even out yet, but the Slate truck has experienced wild ups and downs, mostly related to pricing. It blew people away with the idea of starting under $20,000, but then the tax credit ended. But you could still get a solid deal!
That Slate truck could still be under $20,000
The Slate truck or tiny Jeff Bezos electric pickup has generated tons of attention. When it debuted, it mentioned being available for under $20,000. People went wild and put deposits down.
Not long after that, the federal tax credit for $7,500 was scrapped. It ends in September, and many people thought that the electric Bezos truck needed that discount to cost under $20,000.
Despite claiming not to increase pricing, the cost did increase to ‘mid $20,000’ on the site, but stick with me here. There are state tax credits available for EVs. For example, Orange offers a $2,000 tax credit to help with EV prices.
According to Inside EVs, 17 states currently offer EV incentives. Illinois offers up to $4,000, and California Governor Gavin Newsom plans to restart the program. But these incentives could quickly run out of allotted funds.
Slate COO, Jeremy Snyder, insists that the company will be fine. He shared that those with Slate truck reservations could get their trucks in the teens with the help of state credits and rebates.
However, those affordable pickup trucks will be pretty spartan. Don’t be surprised to discover that to keep prices down, you may have to give up creature comforts such as a radio, reverse camera, and automatic locks.
