There’s no question about the fact that most drivers want cheap gas prices. This is the case regardless of the grade of fuel they need for their vehicles. Luckily, 2024 brought lower prices at gas station pumps, and experts say this trend will more than likely continue this year. Of course, several factors could stand in the way of this at times, but the outlook is mostly positive.

Cheap gas prices should be fairly easy to find at station pumps in 2025

Cheap gas prices are always a hot topic. This is the case for a few reasons, but mostly because quite a bit goes into how much drivers pay at gas station pumps. Luckily, Gas Buddy is reporting that the trend of lower prices will continue for 2025. In fact, it seems this will be the third consecutive year of price declines, which should make road trips much more appealing this year.

Regarding the prices at gas station pumps, Gas Buddy is reporting that the national average will fall to $3.22 per gallon this year. Notably, this is down from the $3.33 average that 2024 saw. Of course, there are several factors that could serve as barriers to cheap gas prices. The report says, “While declining fuel prices in 2025 will provide welcome relief to American drivers and businesses, emerging risks could lead to increased volatility.”

The report about the costs at gas station pumps continues, “Geopolitical uncertainties, potential disruptions from extreme weather, and policy shifts under the new administration could create challenges for fuel markets. Despite this, expanding global refining capacity and moderating demand are expected to support lower prices for most of the year.”

Of course, there are times of the year when gas prices at station pumps will be higher or lower. For example, the report says that prices could peak in April, with an average price of $3.53 per gallon. They call this a springtime spike. Additionally, December should be the best month to find cheap gas prices. They are expected to fall to an average of $2.89 per gallon. Overall, Gas Budy predicts that consumers will spend about eight percent less for gas in 2025 than last year.

Readers should note that experts also think diesel prices will fall this year. The national average should be around $3.48 per gallon.
