Just like that, everyone is back to hating the six-cylinder Dodge Charger
A couple of years ago, Dodge sent the Charger and Challenger into the sunset, along with a library of naturally aspirated and supercharged V8s. Now, the Charger is back, but exclusively as an EV or an inline-six-powered model. But, as fans get an earful of the Charger SIXPACK’s Hurricane engine, they’re being less than complimentary.
The lawn mower jokes are back as Stellantis dropped a video of the Dodge Charger SIXPACK doing donuts
Last month, a video surfaced on Reddit of a red Dodge Charger SIXPACK smoking its tires on Detroit’s streets. The video did more than capture the sound of tortured tires, though. It also served as one of the first opportunities for Mopar fans to hear the Charger’s Hurricane inline-six engine in action.
Needless to say, that video was well-received. Redditors said things like “As someone who enjoys a good straight 6 engine, I’m not upset by this.” Even the BMW faithful on the page seemed to have hope for Dodge’s incipient six-cylinder performance car. But just as quickly as that praise arrived, it went up in smoke.
More recently, Stellantis dropped a video of CEO Matt McAlear standing between two Dodge Charger SIXPACKs. And just as he finished his introduction of the cars, the Chargers set off spinning in a cloud of tire smoke as the Dodge CEO stood in the middle of the circle.
Of course, in addition to the sounds of the tormented tires, you could hear the Chargers’ Hurricane inline-six engines howling and the exhaust popping. But the sound that the Redditors applauded last month was now met with less enthusiasm.
“If you close your eyes, you can picture somebody weed-eating,” one Dodge fan with an R/T Scat Pack 1320 badge as an avatar image posted. Another viewer echoed his discontent, saying, “The angry vacuum cleaner has evolved into the angry lawnmower.” Ouch.
It didn’t stop there, either. “Man, cool G37 exhaust! What a joke. Sounds horrible,” one viewer said, comparing the soundtrack to an INFINITI. “Just delete this, there is still time,” another commenter replied.
Don’t take their word for it, though. You can check out the video for yourself below!
