Unfortunately, not all engines are created equal. One mechanic is warning drivers about a General Motors engine that you need to run away from. As a Chevrolet fan himself, he can’t recommend the 6.2-liter V8.

Mechanic warns about this General Motors engine

TikTok user @carsrme2 has issued a public service announcement. He recommends running away from General Motors trucks and SUVs with the 6.2-liter V8 engine.

In a video, he shares that GM issued a stop-sale and massive engine recall for this engine. Then he shows a Cadillac Escalade that managed to make it 12,000 miles before needing a new unit.

⚠️ PSA: Thinking about buying a new GM truck with the 6.2L? You might want to think twice. There’s a massive recall and reports of engines blowing up early — even before 10k miles. GM’s “flagship” V8 is now becoming a giant headache for owners. Save yourself the money — and the tow truck bill. #CarTok #TruckTok #Silverado #GMTrucks #RecallAlert #EngineFailure #TruckLife #CarProblems #AutoNews #DontBuyThis #6Point2Problems #SilveradoProblems #GMIssues #CarFails #MechanicLife

He brings his phone around the engine bay, and you can hear the engine knocking, which is a clear sign of death. The mechanic claims to have owned three Chevrolet models on the current platform but can’t recommend it to anyone.

I’m reaching out for more information about which trucks he’s owned and if they have had problems. Also, he asked what engine GM makes that’s worth buying anymore, as the Duramax diesel and 5.3-liter engines also have issues.

One commenter shared that he’s on his second engine and his truck is at the dealership for a third one. Another person shared that they work at a Cadillac dealership and have models with engine problems at 500 miles.

The recall is related to a manufacturing defect that can cause a sudden loss of power. While the problem is caused by the crankshaft and connecting rods, General Motors doesn’t have a solution yet. The automaker might have to replace every single engine.
