Most people would pull over if their SUV lost a wheel. But one Texas man decided he didn’t need all four wheels while running from the cops. Emergency responders were baffled during the slow-speed chase, and alcohol was a factor.

Texas man leads police chase with three-wheeled SUV

Firefighters in Dallas, Texas, responded to reports of a smoking car and possible fire around 2 AM, near Oak Lawn and Hi-Line Drive. When they got to the scene, the driver was sitting in a white SUV with deployed airbags.

Plus, the Jeep Cherokee had a folded front left wheel. But as they approached the Jeep to perform a welfare check, the driver panicked. The suspect, identified as 57-year-old James Williamson, sat up and drove away.

But he could only drive at low speeds as the folded wheel broke loose. The firefighters called the police for backup as Williamson drove down multiple roads, making erratic U-turns with sparks coming from the undercarriage.

According to Fox 4 News, the suspect eventually gave up and pulled into a parking lot on Oak Lawn Avenue. He was quickly detained, and he failed a field sobriety test. Police officers were shocked to discover that the SUV was filled with volleyballs.

His blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit of 0.08%. He told police officers that he had five beers at a bar, and officers noted his slurred speech.

But it turns out that the volleyballs made sense. Williamson coaches a junior volleyball team that recently made it to the national championships. As for the SUV damage, he said he hit a curb. He must have hit it really hard.
