‘We All Know a Murder Kit When We Hear One’ DoorDash Driver Calls Police After Customer Orders Zip Ties and Bleach
Sometimes a delivery driver does a whole lot more than bring dinner. A DoorDash driver in Sweetwater, Texas, is praised as a hero after trusting their instincts and calling police about a suspicious order. It was an inkling that ended up uncovering a hostage situation at a local motel.
It happened late Monday morning, September 22, at the Sweetwater Inn on Georgia Avenue.
According to police, the DoorDash driver had just completed a delivery to one of the motel rooms.
Something about the order didn’t sit right
Officers haven’t disclosed the exact order details in their official report. Witnesses told KTAB that the items included trash bags, zip ties, bleach, a hatchet, and other, uh, “alarming” supplies.
As one commenter later put it on YouTube, “We all know a murder kit when we hear one.”
Responding to the driver’s 911 call, police arrived at the motel around 11:30 a.m. and identified the man inside as Neil Cooper
Cooper refused to come out and told officers he was armed.
When they entered the room, they found a hostage being held against their will. The hostage was quickly rescued without injury, only for the story to take an even stranger turn.
Police soon discovered the supposed victim was wanted on an outstanding warrant from Snyder for “manufacturing and delivering a controlled substance.”
That person was immediately arrested and now faces an additional charge for failing to identify themselves.
YouTube comments called the DoorDash driver a hero several times over, crediting them with saving a life, possibly many lives
Others zeroed in on the suspect’s questionable decision-making. “Not even in a movie plot would you find a criminal with this over-the-top level of stupidity,” one wrote.
“Only in America can you order bleach, zip ties, and a hatchet on DoorDash,” one commenter joked, while another summed it up with, “World’s dumbest criminal.”
What’s clear is that a routine delivery turned into a life-saving intervention because the DoorDash driver paid attention and trusted their gut. As one commenter put it best, they didn’t just drop off an order. They dropped the dime that stopped a potential tragedy.
